Saturday night and the young band that is The Age of Luna were set to perform at The Queen of Hoxton. Sound check was done and I sat with them in the green room and had a little chat with them.
No stranger to my radio show, the band have been releasing tune after tune and they all struck a cord with me. The simple recipe for the foursome is: mix a bit Tribe Called Quest with The Fugees, then add a big spoon full of a British accent and there you have it. Don’t let their ages fool you. Ranging from approximately 17 to 21 years of age, this band is seriously talented. It makes you think to yourself “what the hell was I doing at that age” – and trust me, I definitely was not as deep as them.
Their sound is unique coming from the U.K. with a mixture of conscious hip hop, jazz and neo soul/RnB. It is quite reminiscent of 90s RnB yet has this fresh, contemporary vibe to it.
As mature as their music may sound, sitting in the room allowed me to get to know their young, fun and energetic personalities. These personalities came across even more on stage too during their performance. The chemistry between them is fantastic and I am excited to see what the future brings for this them.
